Prevent the Silent Killer Hypertension

Hypertension is known as a chronic disease. It is not curable, but it can be managed with the right medicine. Because of this, patients continuously get regular medical care and follow-up.

Fortunately, there are several ways we can prevent this disease which also help lower our risks of stroke and heart disease. As a family clinic in New Jersey, we’ll share some tips below:

  • Keep a healthy diet
Limit your sodium intake and increase your potassium in your diet. Food that is lower in fat, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are also important. Moreover, having less sodium in your diet can help improve heart health and reduce blood pressure.
  • Limiting alcohol intake
Too much alcohol can increase your blood pressure. For men, it is recommended to take no more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day, while women should have no more than 1.
  • Be physically active
Regular exercise can help you burn excess extra weight and lower blood pressure. It also makes your heart stronger. If you already have hypertension, you should get regular medical care to prevent complications.

Should you have questions or concerns, please call Vijay Patel, MD. Our internal medicine doctor in Matawan, New Jersey, will be more than glad to help you out.
